The wonderfully talented Susanna from
sent me these lovely things to work with all the way from Finland.
Susanna made the large beads herself, even the cute rabbit/hare. Also with the beads came the wonderful clasp which Susanna's friend Solen from www.etsy.com/shop/solekoru made.
I am a textile designer who plays around with beads so naturally fabrics had to feature in it somewhere.
Susannah's lovely beads
Earrings
A bracelet on memory wire with some more of my hand made beads
A key ring with another of Susanna's beads
I started off aging some fabrics with vegetable peelings, ( yes the pinky red on the fabric is beetroot!) found some shibori dyed fabric made for an earlier project and made some beads with them. I looked through my boxes for various treasures. I found an escutcheon from my sister Caroline, fur given by an elderly neighbour, a piece of driftwood from Cornwall, a piece of treasured Mother-of Pearl and lots of recycled beads. It was lovely playing around with the gathered bits and pieces and the project grew.
When I was finally finished I thought that maybe the amulet with the hare on it had grown a bit too big. Although the right size for me! When the reveal date was postponed I had time to change it slightly and add to it. So off I went to the local Workaid charity shop and bought some leather and now I can wear the necklace and it can be transformed into a handbag too.
I hope Susanna I have done your wonderful beads justice and a big thank you to Lori and everyone who helped behind the scenes for making this possible for all of us. I had a lovely time making these.

That's a great work with Susanna's soup :-D
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of transforming the amulet to a purse! The beads from both of you match together so easily. Love your pieces!
(Sorry, there is a miss spell on Susanna's blog address link above, an h missing)
I love it! The rabbit in her fur nest! So clever to have a necklace that can be used as a handbag, I have never before heard of such, but when I see it, it is just the thing everybody should have. If I could speak English better, I would use many words meaning the same: just wonderful. And all that experimenting with materials and dyes... If textile art is like your work, I love textile art.
ReplyDeleteYes, the link to my blog doesn´t work, it should be like this:

ReplyDeleteWell, what fun those are! I love all of them; a wonderful soup (LOVE the information sheet she sent along) and a wonderful result.
ReplyDeleteHello~! Do you happen to be Caroline Laurense's sister? :D Because she marveled at the necklace I created for the last BSBP, and was pretty damn sure her sis living in the UK got a focal by the same Finish artisan from her partner. But she couldn't get online to show me. So I bugged Othel Lehto about the other focal, and she pointed me to your blog. Well, there's a Caroline mentioned in the post, so I guess you are! :)
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I didn't join the hop back then, RL got to me. I do plan to catch up on it eventually though. Some day. In any way, I love what you did there. The jewelry looks so floofy (is that a word even) and warm, something that's reminiscent of the norther countries and their rich mythology of trolls and the like.
Yes Sandra. Caro is my sister and she makes the most beautiful necklaces. I am trying to persuade her to start a blog and take part in the next Beadsoup! I was very pleased to see that Othel Lehto won a prize with the necklace she made from my Soup! Thanks for the comments!
